Howdy,

Jeez. These Bose PAS things are causing quite a bit of discussion.
( See: http://start.djgold.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=822 )

I use Tesseract Audio PL-88's. They are planars. They are custom built. Each cabinet has 2-8" speakers and a ribbon for high end. They radiate 160 degrees off the face of the cabinet. They weigh 22 lbs. 11 inches (h) x 22" (l) x 9" (d).

RogueWave is fast, with a rise time of just 32.7 microseconds. (Human ear: 30µs)! These speakers reproduce complex transients that no other speaker can. I can't get them to feedback with a live mic right in front of them. They are incapable of generating a standing wave.

People always come up to me and ask me where the bass is coming from. I point to the speakers. I had a big band leader come up to me at a reception recently to ask me about them. He's never heard anything like them. I also hear things in music that I've never heard before. I am constantly looking around because image placement fools me. The imaging of these speakers is spectacular.

I drive them with a 1850 amp. I'm getting more so I can stack them.

Loud, crisp and clean.

Dave

P.S. They cost a lot less too.

Dave, do you have any info on the Tesseract Audio PL-88's? If not, could you point the way to where I can read up on them? They seem to be exactly what I'm looking for!

Now you see that? I Googled "Tesseract Audio PL 88" and their website didn't come up in the first 100 page results!!

Thanks, CJ.

I like what I see. And I also see that it's a Louisiana-based company. That's rather embarassing for me, since I spent 11 years down there!

Hi Guys,

Sorry for not being here earlier. I'm the host at our local AHL affiliates home games. I run around the arena in front of 5,000 people and hone my skills for weddings. Me, a mic and a bunch of screaming people. FUN!

The PL-88's were built for me because I was tired of hauling powered speakers around and I was tired of watching them clip. They also sounded pretty crappy. The first time I heard the PL-88's, I was floored. We were outdoors at a college reunion and we lit them up and walked far away from them, about 200 feet. The sound was just as clear as if we were standing 50 feet away. My WIFE noticed the difference. THAT was huge. I will get more info and post it asap.

The best way I can describe the sound: If you've ever listened to music through the best headphones you COULDN'T afford, that's it. The imaging is spectacular. I will set them up as far apart as possible and walk anywhere in the room and still hear both speakers.

Dave - They sound like they should be great speakers, but that MSRP is pretty steep. Is that really what those are selling for? Or is there a "street price", too?

Hey guys,

I'll get the cost for the PL-88's. I'll post it as soon as I can.

They do look interesting......I'll give you that much!

BOSE could use a little competition in the esoteric PA speaker market.

It seems for now that BOSE had the upper hand when it comes to aesthetics -- their speakers certainly look "cooler".

Perhaps Tesseract could come up with some speakers that look as great as they sound?

Hi Guys,

I'm waiting on stats for the PL-88's. The webpage has not been created yet. As far as the coolness of Bose, the PL-88's, or anything else for that matter will not look like Bose. It's almost surreal.

I don't care how speakers LOOK as long as they produce semi-accurate sound reproduction.

I've been able to get great sound out of American Audio DLS-15ps, after all I use only Rane mixers in my ceremonies and receptions.

Those mini-Tesseract ($850 MSRP) appear to have only a single 8"

The dual 8" model sounds like a winner as it would match up better with my subs and would also have better power handling capacity and higher efficiency.

Currently the speakers I use for Touring are JBL SR components in Genz Benz enclosures. They are extremely HEAVY.

It would be nice to dispose of these Large Trapezoidal boxes that weigh 82 pounds each, and find something that (with a subwoofer) produces the same SPL and better accuracy in the upper midrange with less diffraction and standing waves.

Hey djmc,

The dual 8's will be less than double the single cost. They DO reproduce stuff in music that you don't hear with regular speakers.

Halloween night I set them up outside my house. They were about 40' apart. I loaded OTSDJ with a bunch of halloween music, sfx, Thriller, Bring Me To life, etc and stayed outside all night long and just loved it.

They are amazing.

I will post the cost, etc as soon as I get it from my source. They are moving offices this week.
