I’ve had several PM’s about ideas for new forums/categories… they’re all good ones and we’re looking at which ones will be implemented:
We’re looking for more input!
Please place your suggestions in this post, along with reasons why and how it should be implemented.
Please note: We will not be jumping on anything quickly until we are out of the initial BETA phase of testing. For now, we’ll stick to the General Discussion forum, and perhaps a separate Gear/equipment/sound/lighting forum.
In advance, thank you for your input! |

I, for one, would like to see a school dance forum.
As the season is upon us once again, it would be helpful for newer DJs (like myself) to hear from the experienced veterans on the subject. |

That sounds like a good idea!
Perhaps we'll find a way to include all teen/school/youth events under one forum, or maybe we need on specifically for Jr. High & High School dances.
Once we get a few different topics going under the General Discussion forum, it'll give us a pretty good idea of what other forums we could put together. Then we can move those discussions to the new forum--whatever it is. |

Perhaps a 'Bar Gig' forum instead of 'Da Club' . . .
There are far more bars in this world than clubs . . . which probably means there are many more of us doing plain 'ol regular bar gigs than clubbing! |

Hey CJ,
I'm going to second the addition of "School" and Wedding" forums... it would be a great place to get general ideas, music selection ideas and activity ideas for these type of events...

All right,
So far we have already implemented a Gear - Equipment - Sound & Lighting forum,
and you guys have requested:
School Dance (this would probably include all teen/schools/youth events)
Weddings (this would probably also include any type of formal event)
Bar Gigs (including Karaoke?)
Country Music (Mike -- Is that Country? Western? or Both? :hahaha: )
Games & Contests (Interactive events)
Keep the ideas coming!
Until we have several threads going in the General Discussion forum that could fit under these topics... I don't really see us just making an empty forum to start them up... hmmmmm. We'll see what happens over the next couple of months as more DJ's join the board and we get more active.
If you think this should be implemented in a different way, let me know! |

A place where we can pi$$ & moan or biotch about anything . . .

There are several new forums & categories coming in the near future, but the one that's had the most posts in the General Discussion forum is what we'll add next:
Weddings & Formal Events
Open Discussion for Weddings and other Formal events:
Photos, Videos and success stories are welcome!
Ask questions and learn from the best. |

| Bringing an old thread to life. Why not a music forum to talk about the current top 40, country etc. along with those questions about those music classics. |

CJ,
How about an area to discuss ethics? There are a lot of different issues that could come under this category such as general business ethics, dealing with clients (cancellations, quoting, salesmanship, etc.), handling of events, tipping, what kinds of gigs to refuse, music play lists and the list goes on...
For example. I had a verbal agreement with a wedding client for a standard 5 hour reception (contract was not done yet). The bride has changed her mind on the wedding time and now wants a seven hour reception but only wants me for the five hours... starting after dinner. Paying my discounted fee for the additional two hours was "not in their budget". They just want me to show up and play dance music. I declined, because I feel that not having me do cocktail & dinner music and handle a grand entrance / toast will not make for the type of party that I stake my reputation on. I would rather see them hire a bottom feeder to do their low budget affair. I feel badly for the couple because I know that their reception is an accident waiting to happen but it's their decision.
I am quite sure that I'll be able to book that date for a "real" wedding. I wonder how others would have handled that. Who else would have turned that gig down? Who would have just grabbed the cash and went with the flow... and why?
I also recently had a discussion with another DJ from my area who allows his DJs to openly solicit tips. Personally, I think it's tacky and don't allow it.
Comments anyone?
Enough to have an entire forum category or would it fit in elsewhere?
Jack

I have several replies to Jack's questions, but I'll hold off until this gets moved to a seperate forum, or at least a seperate thread.
CJ-
You need a knowledgable moderator? I don't think so. A moderator's job is not to verify information, but to keep topics on track, watch for objectional posts and/or create new topics when deemed necessary, etc.
It is a job that you have done well. Compared to moderators on other boards, that adjective could be upgraded to 'fantastically well'. |
