Now that CARLY is eliminated (Hooray!!!).....she now can claim her rightful place among SIXTH PLACE contestants on AI, along with the following Idol 6th placers:
Carmen Rasmussen (who?)
Kelly Pickler (C/W artist)
Constantine Maroulis
and, she can say that she "Beat Sanjaya" because SJ only made 7th place (last year).........I wonder what happened to Sanjaya anyway?
Carly's failed CD ("Natural High", 2001, MCA) is now one of the top sellers at Amazon.com.......its selling for a very high price ($14)......which is incredible because you couldn't even GIVE these CDs away before AI7.
Here's my list of IDOL REJECTS who have done well so far:
1) Clay Aiken (2nd place): I'm still getting requests for this dweeb
2) Chris Daughtrey (5th place): very popular in wide demos
3) Kelly Pickler (6th place): hit C/W in regional markets, popular on TV
4) Jennifer Hudson (7th place): Best Supporting Actress ("Dreamgirls")
5) Joshua Gracin (???): big on the gospel/CW circuit
6) William Hung (rejected in auditions): singlehandedly turned Ricky Martin into CHEESE.....sold 200,000 CDs of his tuneless drivel.
7) Blake Lewis (2nd place): doing well on Pop Charts
8 ) Kimberly Locke (3rd place): had several hit songs on Pop & AC chart
9) Elliot Yamin (3rd place): has had several AC hits
10) Tamyra Gray (4th place): has achieved stature as a songwriter, she wrote the Fantasia song "I Believe"
this is just a small sampling of the artists who've become successful since they were rejected on American Idol. |

| And I never hear any of them on the radio. Ever. I'll occasionally hear WLUP (rock) mention Daughtry but the only mention I hear of any of the others is in the newspapers. Which I think demonstrates how fractured radio is any more. It's not broadcasting, it's narrowcasting. None of the stations I listen to play any of them. |

At a recent wedding, I had requests from B/G and played:
Daughtrey
Pickler
Aiken
all of which are carried on my CD subscription service
plus they made me play songs by Underwood & Clarkson (of course).
Did I mention that this wedding also featured Karaoke too? ;) |
