has anyone else noticed the HUGE spike in their Alexa score?
they have made big changes to their scoring algorithm, making the Toolbar users less important, and using *other* data to comprise their score.
MINE went up from nearly 2 million, to a score of 985,000. Weekly score also showed a big jump: from just over 1,000,000 to a latest week number of 269,000.
Before you say "Alexa isn't important" keep in mind these 3 things:
1) They are now owned by AMAZON.com (deep pockets)
2) Google ranks their data very highly
3) Yahoo counts every single link from Alexa
as to that last item, in the old system I had perhaps 2 links counted, but under the new system I have something like 4-5 individual page links.
(I've jumped to 6th place in my region, out of 108 sites......so I'm in "Sacramento Valley" page, the "Arts & Entertainment" page, the "Music" page" and the "DJs" page)
Also noticed that "DJ Gold" went up from the high 900,000 range to the new score of just under 600,000. |

Alexa is using Link Popularity as one of their measures, possibly Google PR as another external measure, in their new calculation.
I highly recommend that everyone build as many Anchor Text keyword-embedded links, and that includes posts here at DJ Gold!
Advantage to moving up the ranks: as other webmasters see your site, they too will notice and bring traffic, and possibly bring more links.
(Now that I'm a PR3 site, we're getting tons of unsolicited links.....these are ones where webmasters voluntarily put one backlink to MY site, in the hope that I will do a recip.....I'm only doing recips with RELEVANT sites (ones that match 3 key words or more). |

my new score = 475,079
DJ Gold improved to 442,479 |

Don't worry Bartman--- you can only go UP from there!
First of all, you are a PR3, which means that MOST free directory sites will give you rapid (3-6 day) approval for links. Get as many "anchor text" links in "Shopping===>Weddings" (you want it to vary so that you don't say the same thing in every descr.)
According to Yahoo Site Explorer, you have 372 links inbound to your domain, not really bad per se, but about 90% of them are from DJ Gold.
(by contrast: I have 2,850 links at YSE, and only about 8% are from DJ Gold)
You need to have an abundant variety of inbound links, ones from hundreds of domains, all as relevant as possible. Improve your link popularity, and the Alexa rank (and traffic) will follow! |
