Very interesting study on how other DJs do it.
This is a spin-off from my Wedding Brochure review post. Several have commented but the angles we all use vary so much when describing our services/pricing.
Some use lots of pictures with very little words to spark interest.
For example:
Feel the Passion $1195 Bride and Groom dancing
Excite Your Audience $1495 features a picture of people dancing and flashy lights!
Beyond Insanity!!! $3850 picture of huge speaker stacks and truss lighting
Others use a paragraph built around emotion or value, others use a laundry list or bullet points of what they offer.
I’m not sure what works best, but one I thought was very good at making you think you are getting a great value went something like this.
Distinguished options for your event:
Small DJ sound system $600 up to 3 hours
Large DJ sound system up to 250 people $875 up to 4 hours
Club Mega Bass system $1425 up to 5 hours
Additional hours $150 per
Basic light show $200
Deluxe light show $400
Super light show $975
Mirror ball add-on $75
Spotlight for first dance $150
Emcee to host your event $500
Wireless mic for the best man’s toast $50
Pre-event planning meetings $100 per hour (1 hour free with all package bookings)
Cocktail hour music $200
Ceremony sound system $250
Ceremony DJ to play songs $150
Extra mics for ceremony $50 each
Karaoke add-on $250
Projector/Screen for Slideshow $385
Popular package choices:
The Standard 4-hour Reception $950
A short paragraph describes it and what’s featured is the Small DJ sound system, Basic Light Show, cocktail hour music and a mic for the toast.
Option total would be $1,200. This makes it look like a deal.
The Enhanced Reception $1275
Similar but different options.
Does this type of marketing work? I see it as a great way to charge more for little added service or services a DJ normally provides but it appears the value is outstanding when looking at the options then deciding to book a packed deal instead.
So what do you all think of this method. Good or bad!
I feel it clearly shows that DJs are more than music and using this method could take the same package you charge xxx for, could rise to xxxx just by presenting in a different way. |

| Maybe your web site or brocure would have pictures of all the things you mention, but if it's just words... Basic, Deluxe, Super, etc. that doesn't really tell the customer what they are getting. And even if you do have example pics of each tier of service and equipment, you will still need some kind of specific wording saying what all they actually get. |

I like to keep things simple, like "IN N' OUT BURGER" and their very short menu.
People don't like complication, and most don't care about equipment....sad fact. |
