| I just got 2 Promo only CD's. They were loaded with spelling mistakes on the run sheets. |

I don't ever profess to know much about "mainstream radio" since it is not my forte, but I started getting it and something just sounded "weird" to me and was wondering if this really is the name of the song. Song # 2 Mainstream Radio (7-06) is listed as "I write SINS Not Tragedies, by Panic! At The Disco. The first thing that ran through my head when I saw this was shouldn't that have been the word "SONGS I mean that wouldn't have made a lot more sense to me. Does anyone know if it was meant this way or is it a typo? I really do not know.
Then because I also get the Contemporary Christian series, on Track # 4 of July 06 it said that the song "Sound Off" by the Christian rap group Mars Ill, was a "clean edit" It left me wondering what in the world was a "clean edit" doing on what was professing to be a Christian CD? Anyway the band's manager Mark Madison and I were talking about this and we were both a little concerned about it. He didn't know why it was necessary to change the song (The song does nothng to warrant a change) In the Christian market, having something say things like "clean edit" under it can be damaging to a band's reputation. Groups like Mars Ill and Deepspace 5 are Christian rap groups that I consider among the "forces of good" that are out there because they are not presenting the "darker side" of the genre.
Then on that same CD, a group of whom Promo Only has featured lots of times before, they goofed up a band's name on track # 10. The band's actual name is "Stellar Kart" they called it "Stella Kart" they left out the letter "R" It's left me wondering that in these cases if they are receiving and rubber stamping the information so fast and sending it off to the presses before they take a moment to "proof read" what's infront of them? Sometimes some people have what's called a "regionalism" or more commonly refered to as an "accent" and they spell things as they hear it. I'm figuring whoever let that through was probably from Boston because they don't pronounce the letter "R" up there that much. The old saying is that for all of the "R's" that don't get pronounced in New England, they go up into the sky and fall down on the south because southerners will add the "R" to words in which they don't belong like "Warshington" or something. (Ok maybe that's right because of Bush and all but that's not the point I'm trying to make LOL!)
To me, it's little things like this that make the hair on the back of my neck stand up straight and it equates to scraping fingernails across a chalkboard or a car finish or something. |

Regarding "I write sins..." Acording to iTunes Music Store and several lyrics sources, that's the correct title. Although I agree with you that 'songs' makkes more sense. But that may be the point. Do it different so get noticed. Also less chance of being confused with the Barry Manilow song this way.
"Loaded with spelling mistakes"? What other mistakes did you see? Forexample, on that same CD were these two titles: "U make me better" and "U and Dat" Yeah, those are spelling errors, but they are the correct titles. Too damn often urban bands intentionally spell titles incorrectly.
Although the have had typos in the past, not in these cases.
Regarding the "clean edit" thing. Call PromoOnly and ask. It's my understanding that they only edit stuff with the label's approval. So the "clean edit" tag means they got that approval, or the verson the label sent was already labeled "clean edit". |

I figured on those "urban" groups though, that I knew was intentional. the first time I saw something like that went back to the 80's with Prince.
The band manager said the songs were already clean because it's a Christian group that would never say anything that needed to be edited. The band manager is calling Promo Only to discuss it. There is nothing in that song that would even be controversial excepting that "tag" |

| So so were there any actual errors on Promo Only's part, or was this simply a discussion about improper English used by artists and record companies? |

Turns out that the song is called this apparently. I just didn't know
For the Mars Ill group, the band manager is going to call Promo to discuss it. |

Ahhh... and I see that they mis-spelled "Stella(r) Kart". Ooops.
________________
For the "Clean Edit" -- you may want to ask Promo Only what that means.
Not only do the companies clean up the words for radio ("Radio Edit") but sometimes they also modify the way a song begins and ends, and even edit long empty breaks that don't work well for dancing. Perhaps that's what they're calling a "clean edit". (i.e. "Cleaned Up" for dancing/mixing purposes.) |

Oh. I see that now.
Well, yeah, they do make mistakes.
I remember once a couple years ago on their boards, Glen (thier board administrator) said something like "I guess we have give the girls another class on counting BPMs."
So the fact that the group has been on their CDs before means little to the data entry person. |
