For those of you that weren't paying attention, in that thread where I am debating with TM Century, Jim Weisz posed the following suggestion: Jim Weisz wrote: Post a poll here or on any of the other DJ boards you visit--there are tons of DJs who only DJ weddings. We get countless calls from DJs unhappy with their current music service. Quite a few of them are wedding only so they don't want weekly service but they want something better than they currently have.
So there it is. What type of DJ are you?
Note that only the first two choices, and the first bar/club choice would make you a candidate for TM Century's new monthly series. |

| I don't get a weekly service, but I do get 6 monthly PO subscriptions: MRadio, Urban, Rhythm, Dance, TropLatin, Caribbean. The first two cover most of my needs, but the others are used occassionally. |

We do mostly weddings BUT we also get the current stuff because almost always during the later part of the night (after the older guests have left) we get requests for the most current tunes...
So, yeah, we keep up to date...

| I immediatly signed up for the TMC monthy service as soon as it was announced. It sounds like it's exactly what I need at this time. At some point I'll likely upgrade to the weekly Primecuts. Time will tell. I'm looking forward to receiving my discs. I've heard nothing but positives about TM Century. If I have an event that I need a track immediatly, I can always download it from Itunes or Rhapsody as I have done in the past. My expectation is that I'll have the music I need in plenty of time for what I do. As Jim indicated - I do mostly weddings and this is better than what I have now. |

Considering many B&Gs are in their early 20s, they generally are listeners of new releases, or radio stations that play them, hence they would be expected to request some of the latest hits during "party time." I've found that to be very true in the C&W oriented customers.

Voted for option 5. Most of my events are weddings, but ocasionally grad parties etc. Also have a bar account and the need for new music is mandatory. Rather would have a great Top 30 collection with Prime Cuts.
After 10.5 years with RPM, am very happy making the move to Prime Cuts last year. Rob Drachler was not pushy at all. He called me in 2000 to see if I had interest. At that point, I didn't. By 2005, I knew I needed to make the move to PC. Called Jim first since I've known him for several years. He answered all my questions then had Rob call me to sign the deal.
If I were strictly a wedding DJ doing 15-20 events a year, the monthly series would be perfect. Also, for those on a budget. Still wouldn't be too bad. Less thatn a dollar a song, per disc, for all Top 10 or so songs. |

i strongly believe the following... mobile jocks don't break music. you play what is near and dear to everyones hearts. top 40 with one or two hot ones, such as the new nelly furtado song. people dance to music they know. i have been a club jock and a mobile jock. in a club early in the evening you can play songs that aren't heard normally on the radio.
when i first got into djing (many moons ago), i used to try to impress people with my newest latest wax (in those days) at parties and had little success. :? i had to learn how people love the hits and you have to properly place new songs in your playlist.
last note... my last club gig i dj'd in the old school room at a local multi-venue club. 4 out of 5 nights i would kick a** in my room vs. the other rooms. 8) weds. night was the only night i would lose and it was because it was college night and techno (dance) was the music those kids wanted.
wait til it becomes a top 40 hit. |

dj daddy... CW music is an exception.
current and new music has totally meanings to me. example..
"ms. new booty" by bubba sparxxx is current.
"heat it up" by bubba sparxxx is new.
you can play current at alot of events but not new music. |

There's a DJ in my area that only does weddings and private parties for older generations. I think the monthly subscription will be perfect for him.
(That DJ didn't vote -- he would have voted for the first option)
In my case, not only do I do weddings, but also school dances and parties for the younger crowd. I'll be sticking with my weekly subscription so that I can continue to stay on top of the most recent tracks as well as maintain a "deeper" collection that covers the Top 30. And occasionally.... I actually do need the Christian tracks! |

Your results are going to be skewed because for the 1st wedding and 1st bar you say 'no need for new releases.' Other than maybe a 50th wedding anniversary, I highly doubt there's any event where you don't need any new releases. I didn't say DJs who only DJ weddings don't need new releases--I was simply saying they probably don't need it weekly. Here's what I said:
Jim Weisz wrote: wedding only DJs or those who aren't marketing to crowds that demand the latest will like PrimeCuts Monthly.
Think about how many really new songs get requested to be played at weddings. There are some songs that for some reason get popular among all many age groups (I can remember playing 'Tipsy' a few years ago at a wedding at laughing at the packed dance floor-which included Grandma) but that usually doesn't happen overnight.
We have many wedding only DJs who get PrimeCuts but there are also many out there who are content with a subscription to Promo Mainstream or the NOW CDs. But neither of those gives the variety PrimeCuts Monthly does. Your poll would give more accurate results saying "wedding only - no need for weekly music service, "bars/clubs - no need for weekly music service,' 'all types of parties - no need for weekly music service,' etc.
The way you've framed the choices you're saying either they need new music or they don't. Everyone needs new music - it's just a matter of how fast you need it. |

David,
By new I would be talking about current. You have to see it from a customer's point of view "Hey, Mr. DJ, do you have that new song from so&so?"
I will agree that introducing a new (new new not new current) to just about any group is difficult. I would do it occasionally at teen dances if I felt it was going to take off - my mindset was that they (the teens) might remember where they heard it first which, in my mind, would increase my "street" value.

Jim,
Nice addition to the TM offering. Such an issue is somewhere inbetween what is out there already. Considering it would be just an additional release of already licensed material, production costs should be favorable.
If I were still in the market for subscriptions, TM has earned a top choice for my business investment $s.

| Most of my events are weddings and corp. functions. So most of my music is the standard all-time party favorites, but with more and more schools inquiring about my service, I'm starting to think about the school market more and will be needing to obtain current music to cater to the younger generation. I've been networking with other DJs in my area about school events and have found out that in my area, the school market has always been a lower price market compared to the wedding market. So the monthly series would be more cost effective than the weekly series. |

Mainly wedding and anniversaries and Dj'ing in a Band here.
I'm curious, has anyone ever Dj'ed at a forth of July Fireworks show?
Up here at Lake Tahoe, we have several simultaneously and this year I was asked to Dj for four hours during the show, (this is a private fireworks show).
I'm wondering if anyone has done anything special to make it memorable or unique? |

| I'm not actually DJing this year's 4th, but I am providing sound for a band. The city or chamber of commerce sponsors a fireworks show every year and usually includes music of some sort too. |
