*I edited the title of this thread as I felt it was a bad way to word the topic of logos.*

You may have noticed I changed my avatar to a logo I just finished for my DJ company. Here is example of a banner ad I made for search engine ads:

It started out a hobby about 6 years ago or so, but I've really gotten more involved in design, mainly for my company and some side projects but I am interested in helping anyone out who would be interested.

I've noticed that a lot of DJ's that have been around awhile and haven't updated their logos, business cards, or brochures much.

As the times change it is good to give your company a fresh look. All major companies do this (frequently sometimes) and it would be good for our industry as well.

Show your customers your hip with the times and show them that you care to keep your company on the leading edge.

If you like my logo I designed give me a email anytime....will work for trade or good ole' money. :lol:

I have to say honestly, first thing that comes to mind, ...is that must be hard to read on business cards, banners, and 100x100 avatars (I can't read your avatar), etc. I would recommend a different font color, and the font type is hard to read.

These are just my opinions, nothing personal, it's the artist/critic in me.

You should let me design you something.

This is my logo. Keep in mind though, that while a little makeover gives you a fresh look, consistency is memorable. So little updates to keep your information up to date is always helpful, but if you are changing your logo so often that people can't keep up, and they can't associate your service with the logo, you have missed the boat.

That one is not bad. Only one color, and a odd but unique logo.

I like the font choice and the color is a good one. I think logo's need more than just one color, but thats just me maybe.

Well if you check out the website, it gets incorporated with more intricate images, but I wanted something simple and one colored so that I could put my logo on a polo to give sales presentations as well as for set-up clothes, and it wouldn't cost me a fortune.

Also, the odd shape... if you look closely. Its supposed to be a turntable. The guy that designed this was actual a DJ too, and more a turntable kind of guy. While I don't do turntable work, I liked that it wasn't just a generic shape, it actually correlated to my business.

Your graphics do look very professional as well though.

I like the logo better on your site. It has a gradiant (lighter to darker) scheme which adds depth and more detail, plus it looks a lot better on a black background.

I see a turntable but only after you said thats what your design guy was going for. Even though I don't think most people will ever see a turntable, I still like the logo, it's unique, catches your eye,... and so it does its job.

I know I've told you before, but will say it again, great site yourdjbuddy.

And to everyone else LET'S SEE some more logos guys!!!

Not bad Kevin, I like the hand painted look of the logo.

To me it needs some depth, (raised 3D would look good) and maybe some color but simple can be good too.

Hey Kevin,

I like your logo, but I felt compelled to mess with it for a minute in photoshop. This is what I came up with to keep it simple to incorporate the color and depth idea...

I don't have my logo in use on my new web site, but here's the one from my old site, and is still on my business cards at this time. (This is a low-quality one, I have the original one somewhere)

Thanks for the comments and the tweak. The only problem with what your suggesting is most of my advertising is white on black or, as on the website header, white on red.

suggestions?

Ah I see, if you're doing mostly black and white advertising, then a logo ad that focuses on grabbing people's attention with the graphics rather than color is obviously your goal.

Add a link to your site so we can see the white on red logo too.

Here's what I've took the liberty to make so far:

Bartman I like your logo, good choice of font, but I would change that background color for two reasons, one, I don't think its the most flattering shade of blue and two, I don't think it would appeal to most brides, which is the staple of our market.

What you think of this one?

Ok, no more freebies from me, I got to go play. If you want more options, more time put into something, or something totally fresh, let me know, I work for fair and negotiable rates. But if you just like the input and logo sharing thats cool too. I really like seeing what everyone has so far, not bad at all but most (at least I thought, could use a small adjustment here or there), some could probably use a new look entirely, but what do I know.

Like Kevin's black & white ads demonstrate, usually one ad won't work for all situations. Your business card ad might not work for your brochure without slight adjustment, your color ad might not work as a good black and white logo. The importance of having a good ad, brochure, logo, etc. is paramount when clients want and expect the best for their very important events.

I like how that looks, in my mind I was imagining a white background with red font, and thought it was gonna look aweful, but this one look very nice.

IMHO steve cie, it could use a overhaul. Old school look, which doesn't mean theres anything wrong with that.

But how long have you been using that logo? How do you feel about it? Do want to update it or are you happy with it?
