Just received this email from a national agent -- I won't mention names:
Quote: We have a school event that pays $800 to you:
Sound and lights plus Video Screen and music video's for a school in WOLF POINT MONTANNA on Saturday 4/1/06
Is it me, or isn't that way low for a VJ, even in Montana? I don't think I'd find anyone in NYC charging less than double that for a video jock. I realize, of course, that's it's last minute, so maybe someone would take it.
I don't offer video, and probably never will. I just thought VJ's get a lot more than that. |

Yep, but that's also sub-contracting (a.k.a. as an employee for that company), so it's an extra gig that a VJ might not have otherwise had.
If you were sending a VJ employee of yours out on a gig, how much would you pay them? Maybe more, maybe less -- no tellin' in Montana. 8) |

There's a moron in Colfax, CA........who's doing video dances for around $300 per event.
Its truly sad how low they will go for HS dances! |

| Minimum I would quote would be $1200.00-$1500.00. IF I were doing video, which I'm not. |

That's probably what the company is making off of the event. (Just guessing...) |

| What's the standard referral fee...15%? If the quote is $1200.00 and the VJ makes $800.00 then thats more like 30%. Not bad for sitting on your rear end while someone lugs out video screens, projectors and big sound! |

Right... but it's not a standard referral fee in this case.
If you take that job, you're going as a representative of that company, as though you worked for them.
Think of it more like if it was a multi-op sending out their employees. In this case, it would be sending out an employee who owns their own equipment. The employee in this case is going to make a good chunk of change compared to what a regular employee might make. |
