I'm schedule to DJ a wedding event this Friday (3-3-06). The client has requested Vince Gill - "Can I Have This Dance" as their 1st dance song. I have done some searching for this song and haven't got any results. From my research this song don't exist. I have contacted the client to let them know my findings but they are insisting that Vince Gill has recorded a version of this Anne Murray hit.

If this songs exist....can anyone tell me were I can get copy? None of my many music sourses seem to have or know any thing about it.
Time is running out........

Actually, there are versions by TEN other artists available on iTunes.

Unfortunately, none of them is Vince Gill.

On his High Lonesome Sound CD, he has a song called "One Dance With You." Could that be what the client is looking for?

If they are so insistent of the title AND artist, then they should know what disc it was on, or be willing to provide it. Chances are, one or more details is incorrect. You're not a mind reader.

"One Dance With You." I'll check to see if that's the song they are thinking about. Thanks John.

I asked them if they have a copy of this song. They didn't... just heard it one day and liked it and wanted it for their first dance. They can't remeber where they heard it either.

I still have a little time to figure out what song they will want. If all else fails I guess we'll have to go with their back up song.

Thanks

Here's a song by Brad Paisley that comes to mind:

Brad Paisley wrote: "We Danced"

The bar was empty
I was sweeping up the floor
That's when she walked in
I said, "I'm sorry but we're closed"
And she said "I know,
But I'm afraid I left my purse"
I said, "I put one back behind the bar
I bet it's probably yours"
And the next thing that I knew
There we were, lost in conversation
And before I handed her her purse
I said, "You'll only get this back on one condition"

[Chorus]
And we danced
Out there on that empty hardwood floor
The chairs up and the lights turned way down low
The music played, we held each other close
And we danced

And from that moment
There was never any doubt
I had found the one
That I had always dreamed about
And then one evenin'
When she stopped by after work
I pulled a diamond ring out of the pocket of my shirt
And as her eyes filled up with tears
She said, "This is the last thing I expected"
And then she took me by the hand
And said, "I'll only marry you on one condition"

[Chorus]

Like no one else had ever danced before
I can't explain what happened on that floor
But the music played
We held each other close
And we danced
Yeah, we danced

Ah........that is where an AIR-TIGHT contract comes into play.

Mine says:

"ALL REQUESTS MUST BE EITHER A MAJOR HIT SONG -or- SOMETHING EVERYONE WILL WANT TO DANCE TO"

If it ain't in the Billboard C/W or Pop Hits book......I don't have to buy it!

Customer BYOCD.......end of story!!!

"SOMETHING EVERYONE WILL WANT TO DANCE TO"

isn't exactly air-tight. Haven't you ever heard "Play ___, we'll all dance to it."

If you want to be air-tight, say "ALL REQUESTS MUST HAVE REACHED BILLBOARD COUNTRY OR POP SINGLES CHART."

CJ, "We Danced" came to mine while I was researching for the song.

I'll be contacting the client today to work out an alternative song for their first dance since I'm unable to find their first choice. "We Dance" would be a good alternet song for them. I have a list of some really good slow country songs for them to choose from. This isn't the first time I've had a client that was mistaken on a song title or artist before and will probable will not be the last. It's just one of those things that we as DJs face. In our profession, we are looked upon of knowing all about the music and artists. But from time to time we get stumped. I agree, there isn't a song by Vince Gill - "Can I have this dance" and that the client is mistaken. As a professional I'll come up with a solution with the client to make the event successful.

Thanks

Any word from the client what the actual song was they were looking for?

It's possible Vince may have sung "Could I Have This Dance" in concert and might be available on a concert DVD.

That would be really kewl: a duet by Vince & Amy together maybe???

Another song I'm waiting to see re-released is "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Paris Bennett (Am Idol contestant).

She is the only version I've heard that blows Bette Midler's off the map!

FOLLOW UP...

Well, the event went great. Both the B&G's familys had a great time. The first dance went over well with the song "Can I Have This Dance" by Anne Murray. The bride and groom stated to me before the first dance that they also researched for the version by Vince Gill and came back with no results and that they might have been mistaken about the artist.

I had a FOB insist that "Beautiful In My Eyes" was done by Elton John and had the CDR to prove it. He listened to my Joshua Kadison CD about an hour before the ceremony (we were doing both) and admitted that was the song/artist that he downloaded from a P2P site, as Elton John.

I quickly touched about the copywrite infringement and possible fines. We used my disc that evening.
