| We've created the DJ Gold Essentials... stuff that every DJ should have, but how about International selections? Irish, Polish, Italian, Indian, etc. I have some polkas and some Irish drinking songs but not much else in my "International" folder. I need some waltzes and obereks for sure. What's in your "International" record case??? |

I have a pretty good sized collection of each of the following, in order of quantity:
Latin (salsa, merengue, reggaeton, bachata, etc.)
Caribbean (reggae, soca, calypso)
Italian (Arbore, Bocelli, Celentano, Cutugno, Dalla, Gigione, Musiani, Ramazzotti, Tozzi)
Jewish (especially Horas and Klesmer)
Irish (jigs, waltzes, and sing-alongs, mostly)
Indian (Punjabi, bhangra)
Egyptian (Amr Diab and some other Arabic music)
I'd like to add to my Greek, Turkish, Polish, and Chinese collections especially, so I'd be curious what you have there. |

| No one mentioned Brit-Rock. Does music form the UK count in this discussion or since it's English speaking, it doesn't get an "International" status? |

I personally don't consider Brit-rock to be international any more than I consider U2 to be Irish music (even though it is!). I have all this stuff in my "mainstream" category.
How about breaking down each nationality and list what music (titles / artists) should be included.
I'll start with Reggae. I have Bob Marley, UB40, Shaggy and a couple of compilations. I don't get a lot of requests for this genre, so I think what I have is adequete for me. I'm sure that many of you guys need to go a lot deeper.
Polish - There are a large number of Poles in my area and I do get requests for Polish music regularly. Frankie Yankovick has a couple of nice polka selections and is in my library. I also have an assortment of Polka tracks from other compilations. I probably am OK with Polkas but I think that I need to add some waltzes and Obereks. I'm thinking about adding Lawrence Welk. Anyone have a better idea?
Irish - I wouldn't have enough to do an long St. Patricks Party. I have The Clancy Bros. Drinking Songs CD and a compilation of Irish Ballads. I probably should add to this (especially being of Irish descent), perhaps more sing-a-longs and jigs. Looking for suggestions here.
Latin - This is a toughie since it's such a large genre. Anyone care to tackle this one? |

The Latin is just too huge to break down, as is the Reggae. I have all the VP Reggae Gold and Soca Gold CDs, plus some more traditional reggae. Byron Lee is an essential.
After Latin and Caribbean, my next largest selection is Italian (a Staten Island NY necessity). Here's a list of artists:

Most important are the ones I mentioned in my earlier post.
I do have some Polish and German polkas, but I don't even know what an Oberek is. |

| Donny, An oberek is a faster waltz. Not as fast as a Polka. Your list of Italian artists is impressive. This is the kind of information I was hoping to see posted. Thanks for sharing. |
