This is a forwarded email from another DJ -- Mike Thaxton -- that was forwarded to him from iTunes.
I thought it might make an interesting suggestion list for those of you performing tonight.

Quote: Not ten people in a hundred know that auld lang syne roughly translates to times gone by, but that doesnt seem to stop folks from popping their corks (literall and figuratively) to welcome el ano nuevo. We've assembled a New Year's Rockin Eve that spans five decades, from classic rock to funk to um, Wang Chung. We even have one-hit wonders Chumbawumba passing the night away. Follow-Up:

I probably only played 5 or 6 of the songs on the list during the Wedding/NYE Party last night. BUT, it was nice to have the list there to fill in the gaps between the requests and regular party songs.

Happy New Year Everyone! 8)

Do you beat mix these songs or slam mix them? They are a great selection. However, They will be hard to beat mix in the order they are in. they also will have to be broken down by Genre before mixing them. They will though get some people on the dance floor.

I don't think it was meant to be a beat-mix list by any means... simply a suggested play list for 2005 popular songs provided by iTunes statistics.

I personally only beatmix a few of the songs at a wedding. In most cases I simply cross-fade to the next popular or fun song that was requested. The beats of the songs are quite close, so I wouldn't call it a slam mix since they flow together very well. I usually only do a true slam mix when I'm changing genre or going from a slow to fast (or fast to slow) song.... and even then, it's not really a true slam mix, because I'll use a voiceover to smooth the transition by making some sort of announcement or dedication.

As for the songs in this list, as I mentioned before, I really only used 5 or 6 of them. I had to play lots of other types of music not on that list since I was doing a wedding for a wide variety of guest ages.
