SGB is very inconsistent in their quality but generally leaves a bit to be desired.

Invest in good ones to start with as you will have them a long time. Companies like Chartbusters, Sound Choice or DK or names you can trust. There is truly a difference in the sound quality.

SGB good to start out? Yeah, for low-rent low-balling drunken barroom Karaoke in hicksville, Alabama.

(no offense to anyone from sweet home alabammy...its just for illustrative purposes)

READ MY LIPS:

SOUND CHOICE should be your only choice for CD+G tracks.
They are the "Starbucks" of Karaoke.....but unlike Starbucks (whose coffees can be Hit or Miss).....sound choice has the most sounding like the original artist.

There is nothing worse than playing a track and not recognizing the song because the arrangements are so lousy.

SGB is good for C/W....if you do 50% or more in the "yee-haw" style of music, then I would say go for it because its going to cost less than SC.

But dollar for dollar, SC is going to give you the most bang for your buck, especially the FOUNDATION SERIES I & II. The average price per song goes down to about 80 cents and you get the cream of the best songs!

I paid about $750 (combined) for F-I and F-2 thru Pro Sound (pssl.com).
They were having a promotion and rebate offer at the time.
Regular price is around $450 to $499 per 450 song set.

Before I knew much about Karaoke, I got all 5 "essential" packs from Chartbusters. The songs are obviously not original artist arangements, but for the most part are done prety good, and the sound/recording quality of the CDs is good. But, if I had to do it all over again, I would have gone with Sound Choice, because based on recommendations of those who know, that seems to be the best. However, I have been at least satisfied with Chartbusters. I'm not saying it's all the rave, but it is at least acceptable and the songs are actually decent quality music. The absolute worst Karaoke I've heard, with horrendus sound quality, is this player made by Cavs that has a computer hard drive with 2,000+ songs pre-loaded on it. The music has all these "swirly sounding" digital artifacts due to file compression.

I love Sound Choice. Music Maestro was not good when they first came out. The letters were highlighted in the background not in sync with when you sing them. I would normally avoid no-name discs, but I actually like Party Tyme and Karaoke Bay discs you can buy at Walmart, etc! The music quality is very good and the words are 99.9% correct. I have sung with some discs that have incorrect lyrics (I own the regular CD and checked)! :? MTV karaoke discs are great also (and inexpensive).

Ditto about the Party Tyme CDs....we used to buy those at K-mart for only $12 each........a pretty good value and the arrangements are surprisingly OK.

My daughter, a singer, still has a small collection of Party Tyme Cds (Super Hits I, II, III, IV, Female Pop 2, etc)

I now have a CDG burner and burning program, but need to find a legal downloading program (like RealRhapsody). Does anyone have any suggestions? They have karaoke files on RealRhapsody, but I don't think they have graphics. Please help me out here! Thanks.

If your starting out with Karaoke and only planning to use it for private functions, would suggest purchase two the CAV's 203 Super CD+G players along with the NuTech 1, 2, & 3; Chartbusters 1, 2 & 3 and Magic Tracks (by by SGB, but not bad for them). This would give you over 6500 songs, removing the dup's it gives you 4300+. The NuTech disc are mult tracks so you can toggle the lead vocals on and off during the song if the singer needs help or you want to save the people sitting out front.

I believe Chartbuster has release 4 & 5 also and Top Hits Monthly have the release all of 2003 & 2004 (we have 2003).

This holiday season with had nine parties upgrade to karaoke and on the average we only had 4 singers. The one that wanted Karaoke add the 10,000 library to the only had to 2 singers, plus the bartender who comes out to my Thursday night show. We offer three karaoke library the one with 10,000 plus songs (not counting dup's or vocals) and two with the seven CAV's super CD+G's.

In regular karaoke library we use Sound Choice, Chartbuster, Pop Hits Monthly (Pop & Country), Legends, Top Tunes and DK Encore mainly. We also have a few disc from Ameri-Sing, Monster Hits, Radio Star, Backstage and Music Maestro.

Hi,
I guess I'll find out tonight, but I wondered if anyone has the Supercore karaoke discs and what they think of them? The playlist is excellent, I hope the mix and quality is at least good, if so, you can't beat them for the money! My first show with them is tonight, I'll let you know what I think. I agree that Sounds Choice are great, but costly. If you only expect a few singers at each event that you use karaoke, I can't justify the expense. If you have an active karaoke gig with lots of singers, go with sounds choice, music maestro or chartbusters (or Supercore if the quality is good enough). I've heard BAD things about sweet georgia brown discs!

SGB is OK for C/W....that seems to be their specialty!

Hi,
The Supercore collection sounds great, the lyrics match the music nicely. I'm very pleased! I definately recommend this set. I did notice they supply more backing vocals than most other karaoke discs, but with rookie singers, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Some pro singers may not like the vocal help. All-in-all, great set for the money!
