What is your list of genres?

Postby Joseph Ivy » Fri Dec 15, 2006 6:32 pm

On my wedding reception for, I have a list of music genre's that people can request from. Here is that list:

70s, 80s, 90s, Alternative, Bachata, Big Band, Blues , Country, Disco, Funk, Hip-Hop, Merengue, Motown, Theme, Rap, Rock & Roll, Salsa, Tango, Top 40, Vocalists

I have enough music to play for 4 hours straight in each of these genres. I am wondering if I should include other types of songs and music for clients to choose from.

What do you all think?
What do you have for a list of music genres?
Do clients actually pick from the genres or do that just give you a request list?

Thanks to all :)
I think I am right. You think that you are right. I suggest that we figure out which one of us is wrong.

Wow, that's a pretty extensive list!

The only major genre I might add would be reggae. You also might want to divide "Rock & Roll" into "Metal", "Southern Rock", "Classic" and the like.

That said, you're still way more granular than I am. Of course, your dancing background, and your clients with similar backgrounds, require that level of precision. Most of my clients just ask for "slow" songs and "fast" songs. Or sometimes just "good" songs. :hahaha:

At this point, the only people who ever see what genres and categories of music I have are my clients who use my DJ Intelligence planning software.

When a guest makes a request at an event, they might ask "what do you have from the 80's? They can then look on my screen as we browse my folders.
