Many DJ's are "switching up" to computers as the new way to DJ. They provide near-instant access to large song lists and can be integrated to control video and DMX lighting.

For the computer network stuff, is this a permanent install thing, or mobile? If permanent install, like desktops, then hard wired is always better than wireless. Get your wires properly installed with network jacks on the walls. 100 base T, or even 1,000 Base T if your hardware supports it, will be much faster than wireless.

If you want to do wireless or a combination of wireless and wired a couple of the open source models of the linksys WRT54G routers(you won't find them a Walmart) and some handy little firmware upgrades from DD-WRT and you can light up an acre or two and or connect multiple buildings.
