Discounts... Do You?

Reading a post from another thread, i.e.
djmc wrote:…My "lowest" booking (so far) for 2006 is an $888 5-hour event for a Military couple: groom is wearing full dress uniform. The normal price for civilians would have been (you guessed it) $975.
has peaked my curiosity as to whether anyone else offers discounts and for who, or what reasons?

Considering that I'm located near a major military installation, as well as being in the midst of one of the larger retirement locations of the country, I offer a discount for military, senior citizens, and fundraisers. (With a one fundraiser being totally gratis).

How do any of you (if you do at all) apply such special considerations? i.e. What formula do you use to determine how much of a discount to apply? or is it arbitrary?

I offer mid-week discounts and winter discounts, and charity discounts of varying degrees, as well as my couple free gigs for Cancer & Leukemia societies. This is all on my pricing page on my web site.

I never got asked about a military discount, but, yeah, I'd give them $100 off.

My dad is a retired USAF Colonel and I have a soft spot for military & law enforcement personnel, so I'll give them a discount.

I offer discounts to charity functions and such too. I've not come accross a military related gig, but if I ever did, I'd extend a discount to them too.

I gave that couple 10% off the regularly quoted rate.

To me, its a small sacrifice compared to what their families go thru when they get Deployed!

Thank You Brian, we appreciate and salute your soft spot.

As I mentioned in on another thread and djmc alluded to above, it’s a small price considering the daily sacrifices they make for the rest of us. And when we make such concessions, it in turn makes them feel appreciated for what they do.

And a here’s salute to your dad from a retired USAF Master Sergeant.

Thank you to all who do support our military services in any way they can.

Thanks, JR. And although I'm a civilian, here's a salute back at you.

Being in the military or law enforcement is typically a thankless job, albeit a vital one. I've always had tremendous respect and admiration for people who choose that path, and I let them know it every chance I get.

I will currently offer discounts on additional hours of service. I won't discount my minimum rate again though. Things always turn out badly when I do that.
