Buy American?

Postby jbrown157 » Sun Nov 28, 2010 11:41 pm

I am wondering what DJ products are made in the USA? I am thinking EV & JBL speakers, Odyssey & SKB cases, Shure & EV microphones. Rane mixers. What can we buy that isn't made in China?

Most of Peavey's high-end gear is made in USA, but their low end stuff is made in China.

How about lighting? Seems every kind of light effect is made in China. I don't know of any lights made in USA.

Actually, JBL has moved production to Mexico.

US made lighting includes High End Systems and Vari Light.
Thanks,

Here's the scoop on JBL.

Being located in Northridge, CA (Los Angeles area) -- they have a large base of Bilingual Spanish speaking workers.

Many of their best workers got sent to Hermosillo MX to train the workers at the new plant, which is in the "Silicon Valley" of Mexico.

At the new plant, the Mexican workers are supervised by the very experienced workers who trained them.

Once their product is assembled in Mexico, they return them to Northridge CA to inspect, package and ship the products.

This extra step ensures good quality control (QC) in their product line.

My PRX speakers were made in North America -- which is 100% better than "Made In China"

I heard that B-52 still has manufacturing here - not sure whether it is the entire product line though..

The ACT-18 sub is made in the United States.

However, I'm pretty sure the Matrix is now made overseas in China.
